Four day Markaz conference begins at Markaz campus today with Dr. Faiz Al Abideen’s (Special Advisor, to their Highness Members of the Saudi Royal family, KSA) inaugural lecture. Thousands of believers gathered to listen to scholars and leaders who came from different parts of the world.
Here is the resolution we adopted in the first session of the conference:
Individuals and movements who shamelessly use Islam- its name and symbols- as a justification for their crimes against humanity should be condemned by all means. Terrorists breed numerous misconceptions about the religion within the public sphere. It’s time the world realize the incredible potential within the religion to counter these retrogressive forces who perform violence on an alarming regularity. No believer is entitled to transgress one’s life and property. It has to be stressed again and again that no Muslim need the destructive force that the terrorists unleash, if he/she wants to live an Islamic way of life. These so-called “Islamic terrorists” make millions of Muslims lives miserable to an unimaginably violent extent. Hence the request to them is to end this circle of violence, if they claim they speak for Muslims.
The conference also urged the leaders of every religion to join hands with the state against those forces who espouse violence for their selfish interests. State policies against terrorism should discriminate between the believers and militants. Otherwise, those policies could be backlashed against the state and the society as a whole to an unexpected level.
Also all levels of state should come together against the common enemies called terrorists. It’s an undeniable fact that the disruptions in the political economic relations between different nations in South Asia have contributed immensely to the making of the current crisis of terrorism. Hence, this conference would urge all of the South Asian nations to forget the frictions between them. Accordingly, the conference also demands that in the formation of foreign policies, what should be foregrounded is the security of the people, not the ideologies of hate.
